Scientist/Engineer - NextG O-RAN and RFML
Job Description
ANDRO Computational Solutions is seeking a hands-on software developer with experience in Open Radio Access Networks (O-RAN), Radio Frequency Machine Learning (RFML), and advanced wireless communications. This position will focus primarily on designing, developing, integrating, and testing software solutions for Next Generation (NextG) wireless networks, including Beyond 5G (B5G) technologies. Working within ANDRO's Marconi-Rosenblatt AI Innovation Lab, the selected candidate will contribute directly to the development of cutting-edge machine learning, cybersecurity, and intelligent wireless networking solutions. This is not solely a research or oversight position—the successful candidate will be actively writing code, integrating software with wireless hardware and test environments, troubleshooting technical issues, and helping transition new concepts into working prototypes and operational solutions. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated developer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working collaboratively in a research and development environment, and applying emerging technologies to real-world wireless challenges. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and test software solutions for O-RAN and NextG wireless systems. Develop and integrate O-RAN applications, including rApps and xApps. Write, maintain, debug, and optimize software primarily in C, C++, and Python. Develop and implement RFML algorithms and machine learning solutions for wireless signal processing, network optimization, spectrum awareness, anomaly detection, and security applications. Integrate software with software-defined radios, wireless testbeds, embedded platforms, and other RF hardware. Work with open-source cellular platforms and libraries such as OpenAirInterface and srsRAN. Support the development of real-time and near-real-time wireless applications. Optimize software for performance, scalability, reliability, and real-time operation. Develop and integrate application programming interfaces between wireless, machine learning, cybersecurity, and network-management components. Participate in system integration, laboratory testing, demonstrations, and technical evaluations. Troubleshoot software, networking, RF, and hardware-in-the-loop integration issues. Collaborate with engineers, scientists, researchers, and program managers to translate technical requirements and research concepts into functional software. Document software designs, testing procedures, results, and technical findings. Stay current with evolving O-RAN standards, NextG wireless technologies, RFML methods, and cybersecurity practices. Contribute to technical reports, customer briefings, proposals, demonstrations, and research publications as needed. Required Qualifications Hands-on knowledge and experience with O-RAN technologies, architectures, or systems. Experience developing or integrating software for wireless communications systems. Background in Radio Frequency Machine Learning concepts, applications, or systems. Strong programming proficiency in C, C++, and Python. Experience developing, debugging, testing, and maintaining software in a Linux-based environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research and development environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience developing software for or working directly with software-defined radios. Experience with open-source cellular software platforms such as OpenAirInterface or srsRAN. Experience developing O-RAN rApps or xApps. Familiarity with O-RAN interfaces, the RAN Intelligent Controller, service management and orchestration, or near-real-time network control. Experience applying machine learning techniques to RF data, wireless signals, or communications systems. Applied hardware-based RFML experience, including data collection, model deployment, or real-time inference. Knowledge of Zero Trust principles and cybersecurity practices for wireless or distributed systems. Experience with symmetric multiprocessing-safe programming, multithreading, parallel processing, or concurrency. Experience with real-time system optimization, low-latency software, embedded programming, or hardware/software integration. Experience designing and integrating APIs. Familiarity with containerization, virtualization, cloud-native development, or orchestration technologies used in O-RAN environments. Experience with Git, software configuration management, automated testing, or continuous integration practices. A record of technical research, high-quality publications, patents, or successful technology demonstrations is a plus. Education and Experience A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, wireless communications, or a related technical field is required. An advanced degree is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and directly relevant hands-on experience may be considered. Other Requirements U.S. citizenship is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
