Senior Software EngineerJob Description We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and integrate software for embedded systems across the full development lifecycle. You will work from requirements analysis and architectural design through implementation, testing, validation, and formal sell-off, with a strong emphasis on robust, reliable, and thoroughly tested solutions. In addition to hands-on technical development, you will support proposal efforts by translating customer requirements into actionable work tasks and providing accurate effort estimates. This role requires clear, confident communication and the ability to present and explain software solutions, test results, and technical findings to both internal teams and customers. Responsibilities

+ Perform full lifecycle development for embedded systems, including implementation, unit testing, integration, and formal sell-off testing to ensure robust and reliable performance.

+ Review customer requirements, translate them into detailed specifications, and produce technical documentation, designs, operational concepts, and effort estimates.

+ Collaborate closely with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration of embedded software with electronic components, boards, and instrumentation.

+ Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and procedures; perform debugging and troubleshooting to ensure compliance with functional and performance specifications.

+ Conduct design and code reviews, resolve defects, and adhere to established development processes, configuration management practices, and release procedures.

+ Design, develop, maintain, and debug embedded software applications using C, C++ and Python for real-time and embedded environments.

+ Review and interpret system and software requirements, ensuring full traceability and compliance throughout the development and verification process.

+ Develop and execute automated test scripts and maintain automated test environments for embedded software systems.

+ Perform integration, verification, and validation testing on embedded hardware and software components, providing formal evidence of requirement compliance.

+ Participate in software architecture discussions, code reviews, and design evaluations to guide technical decisions and improve system design.

+ Develop new features, enhance existing functionality, and troubleshoot software issues throughout the product lifecycle.

+ Utilize instrument control and lab equipment such as single-board computers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power supplies for hardware and software validation.

+ Collaborate with software and hardware engineers to troubleshoot and resolve defects, performance issues, and integration challenges.

+ Maintain thorough test and development documentation, including test cases, software design records, test results, and compliance reports.

+ Support continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for automated build, testing, and release processes.

+ Conduct formal verification activities and prepare documentation and artifacts that demonstrate requirement compliance.

+ Present development progress, test results, and technical findings to internal stakeholders and customers in a clear and structured manner.

+ Support root cause analysis of field issues and implement corrective software solutions to improve reliability and performance.

+ Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on software quality, reliability, maintainability, and overall system performance. Essential Skills

+ Proven experience in both embedded software development and testing across the full development lifecycle.

+ Strong hands-on experience developing and debugging embedded applications in C and C++.

+ Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and test development.

+ Experience with requirements analysis, traceability, and verification in embedded or real-time systems.

+ Familiarity with embedded hardware concepts, microcontrollers, and real-time operating systems or bare-metal environments.

+ Ability to design, implement, and maintain automated test environments and test scripts for embedded software.

+ Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for both software and hardware-related issues.

+ Ability to create clear technical documentation, including specifications, test plans, and design records.

+ Effective communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to internal teams and customers.

+ Collaborative mindset and experience working closely with hardware and software engineering teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Bamboo for automated build, test, and deployment pipelines.

+ Experience with version control systems, particularly Git, in a collaborative development environment.

+ Familiarity with common communication protocols including UART, I²C, SPI, Serial RapidIO, and Ethernet.

+ Experience with unit testing tools and frameworks for embedded software.

+ Familiarity with Linux environments and shell scripting for development, testing, and automation tasks.

+ Exposure to MIL-STD qualification testing and associated compliance processes.

+ Understanding of manufacturing processes and electronic stress screening in support of hardware reliability.

+ Solid understanding of bare-metal programming concepts and real-time constraints.

+ Ability to contribute to proposal efforts, including translating requirements into work packages and estimating development and test effort.

+ Interest in or ability to work on products used in demanding environments, including defense-related installations. Work Environment This role is primarily onsite in a cubicle-based office setting that is closely integrated with engineering labs, providing direct access to embedded hardware, test equipment, and instrumentation. The team follows a 9/80 work schedule, offering a structured yet flexible approach to working hours. You will work hands-on with equipment and systems that ultimately support critical installations, with opportunities to follow products from initial design through manufacturing and qualification. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greenville, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
