We are seeking an experienced Functional Test Engineer to validate that an enterprise Department of Veterans Affairs Pega solution meets approved business, operational, technical, and compliance requirements. The role develops traceable test scenarios, executes system and end-to-end workflow testing, supports UAT, and drives clear defect documentation and retesting across PPBE, budget, acquisition, reporting, access, and audit-related capabilities.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain functional test plans, scenarios, cases, scripts, data needs, expected results, and traceability to requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Execute system, end-to-end, integration, regression, smoke, and exploratory testing across Pega workflows and user roles.
- Validate business rules, calculations, field controls, routing, approvals, notifications, reports, dashboards, audit history, attachments, and exception paths.
- Test planning, programming, budgeting, execution, UFR/FCR, acquisition, compliance, and cross-year reporting workflows using realistic scenarios.
- Verify role-based access, permissions, segregation of duties, error handling, data-entry validation, and user-interface behavior.
- Document pass/fail results, deviations, evidence, logs, screenshots, defects, severity, business impact, and retest outcomes in approved tools.
- Collaborate with analysts, developers, architects, data engineers, and stakeholders to clarify expected behavior and resolve defects.
- Support test readiness, test-data preparation, defect triage, root-cause analysis, release-quality gates, and post-deployment validation.
- Plan and support UAT, including scenario development, user support, issue triage, readiness review, and acceptance evidence.
- Maintain reusable regression coverage and contribute to quality metrics, trends, lessons learned, and continuous improvement.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- 4+ years of experience in functional testing, system testing, regression testing, UAT support, or software quality assurance.
- Experience developing and executing traceable test plans, scenarios, cases, scripts, expected results, and defect reports.
- Ability to test complex workflows, business rules, calculations, roles, permissions, reports, integrations, and exception conditions.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments with analysts, developers, Product Owners, and technical stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of requirements traceability, test-data management, defect severity, retesting, and release entry/exit criteria.
- Experience with test-management and defect tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, ALM, qTest, TestRail, or comparable platforms.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and stakeholder-communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote, client-facing test environment.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED
- Experience testing Pega, Appian, Salesforce, or another enterprise workflow/case-management platform.
- Experience in Federal, financial, acquisition, health, or another regulated environment; direct VA experience is not required.
- Familiarity with API testing, SQL/data validation, Section 508, performance testing, security testing, or CI/CD.
- ISTQB, Agile testing, Pega, or comparable quality certification is preferred, but not required.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
CLEARANCE
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
WORK LOCATION
- Remote As part of the application process, you are expected to be on camera during interviews and assessments.
