Job Title:
Project Engineer - Level 2
Position Summary:
The Project Engineer Level 2 plays a key role in the planning, execution, and successful delivery of technical projects for MSP clients. This mid-level engineer takes ownership of implementation tasks, contributes to solution design, and provides mentorship to junior team members. The role involves significant client interaction, onsite and remote deployment, and ensuring quality outcomes through documentation and process adherence.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead technical implementation of mid-size to complex projects (server migrations, firewall deployments, office 365/email migrations, network configurations). Execute project scopes and runbooks with minimal supervision. Contribute to solution design and scope validation in collaboration with Technical Account Manager, senior personnel, and management. Travel up to 30% of the time for on-site project implementation and management. Create and update configuration documentation in IT Glue. Communicate clearly and professionally with clients during all project phases. Deliver post-implementation support and technical hand-off to Service Delivery or account team. Assist with mentoring and training junior staff.
Qualifications:
Education:
Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent work experience.
Experience:
4-6 years of IT support or a related technical role.
Skills:
Strong experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server, VMWare, firewalls, and switches. Understanding of multi-tenant environments and MSP tools like Autotask, IT Glue, RMMs. Excellent project coordination, communication, and customer service skills. Able to manage tasks independently and prioritize under pressure. Experience working with project management teams and tools. IT Certifications (e.g., CompTIA Project+, AWS, Microsoft, Azure, Apple, VMWare Certified). Key Performance Indicators for
Role:
Percentage of Hours Worked Actually Billable Proportion of total hours worked that are directly billable to a client project or ticket. Communication and Documentation Measure of clarity, consistency, and completeness of engineer communication and documentation in Autotask and IT Glue. Accuracy and Timeliness Measurement of how accurately work is completed and how consistently tasks are completed on time within the project plan.
