Job Overview Join our team as a School Bus Driver and become a vital part of ensuring safe, reliable transportation for students. Duties Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles according to traffic laws and company policies Ensure passenger safety by following transportation safety regulations, emergency response procedures, and vehicle codes Assist students with boarding and exiting, including wheelchair assistance and behavior management when necessary Maintain discipline on the bus, promoting respectful conduct among students Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking brakes, lights, signals, and emergency equipment Respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies with appropriate driving techniques such as emergency stop procedures and defensive driving skills Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear language in English or multilingual formats as needed Follow all state and local commercial driving laws, school policies, and passenger safety protocols Assist with heavy lifting when necessary for loading or unloading equipment or supplies Complete accurate reports on incidents, student attendance, or vehicle maintenance issues Experience Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or transit bus operation preferred Demonstrated ability to work with children and manage student behavior effectively Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; commercial driver's license (CDL) required with passenger endorsement where applicable Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency response procedures for transportation, and safety regulations is essential Experience providing customer service in a school or community setting is highly valued Bilingual skills or multilingual abilities are a plus for communicating with diverse student populations Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and handle quick responses to traffic changes confidently Certification in first aid and CPR is preferred but can be obtained upon hire; knowledge of emergency stop procedures enhances safety readiness Embark on a fulfilling career where your driving skills directly contribute to the well-being of students.
