Overview Join our dynamic team as a Bus Driver for our After School Program, where your role is vital in ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of students to and from their educational and extracurricular activities. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on children's daily lives while showcasing your driving expertise and commitment to safety. As a key member of our transportation team, you will operate school buses and transit vehicles with enthusiasm, professionalism, and a focus on passenger safety. Your dedication will help foster a secure, friendly environment that encourages student engagement and community trust. Responsibilities Safely operate school buses/Vans, following all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Transport students to designated locations promptly while adhering to scheduled routes and timeframes. Assist students with disabilities or mobility challenges by providing wheelchair assistance and ensuring their comfort and safety during transit. Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle to verify operational safety, including checking brakes, lights, signals, and emergency equipment. Manage student behavior using positive discipline techniques and behavior management strategies to maintain a safe environment onboard. Respond quickly to traffic changes, road hazards, or emergencies with appropriate emergency response procedures for transportation. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and emergency responders using clear language and professional customer service skills. Follow all school policies regarding passenger safety, student discipline, and vehicle operation while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Perform routine vehicle maintenance checks and report any mechanical issues promptly to ensure continuous safe operation. Support emergency stop procedures when necessary to protect passengers and others on the road. Experience Proven experience driving school buses or commercial vehicles such as transit or paratransit buses is preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, local transportation regulations, and vehicle codes applicable to school bus operation. Experience working with children or in educational settings enhances your ability to manage student interactions effectively. Certification in first aid and CPR is highly desirable to respond confidently in medical emergencies. One will be provided if not possessed. Familiarity with defensive driving techniques and emergency response procedures for transportation ensures passenger safety at all times. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse communities. Valid driver's license. Experience in behavior management strategies helps promote positive student conduct during transit operations desirable.
