The ideal candidate will prioritize student safety, maintain a professional demeanor, and ensure compliance with all transportation regulations and school policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Transportation Safely transport students to and from school, field trips, and other schoolrelated activities. Ensure students follow safety procedures when boarding, riding, and exiting the bus. Maintain order and appropriate student behavior while operating the vehicle. Assist students with special needs when required. Safety & Compliance Perform daily pretrip and posttrip vehicle inspections to ensure safe operation. Follow all federal, state, and local traffic laws and school transportation regulations. Adhere to school safety policies and emergency procedures. Maintain all required driving credentials and certifications. Communication & Reporting Communicate professionally with school administration, staff, parents, and students. Report mechanical issues, accidents, delays, or student incidents to administration promptly. Maintain accurate trip logs, inspection reports, and incident documentation. Vehicle Maintenance & Cleanliness Keep the bus clean, organized, and free of hazards. Monitor fuel levels and basic vehicle conditions. Coordinate with the maintenance team for routine servicing or repairs.
Qualifications Licensing & Credentials:
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (or ability to obtain as required by Florida law). Clean driving record with no major violations. Completion of staterequired school bus driver training (preferred).
Experience & Skills:
Previous experience as a school bus driver or commercial driver preferred. Strong knowledge of traffic laws and student transportation safety regulations. Ability to manage student behavior calmly and professionally. Strong communication and problemsolving skills. Additional Requirements Must pass a preemployment and random drug and alcohol screening. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist students if necessary. Must be reliable, punctual, and committed to student safety.
Background Screening Requirement:
In accordance with Florida Statutes and the Jessica Lunsford Act, all school personnel with access to students must undergo Level 2 background screening and fingerprinting through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Clearinghouse. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the required background screening. Occasional evening or weekend assignments may be required for field trips or school events. Some flexibility may be required during special programs or school activities.
