Job Description

Overview Join our team as an After-School Bus Driver and become a vital part of ensuring safe, reliable transportation for students during after-school hours. In this energetic and rewarding role, you will operate school buses and transit vehicles, providing a positive and secure environment for children and young passengers. Your dedication will help foster a safe, friendly atmosphere while adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations. Responsibilities Safely operate school buses, transit vans, or paratransit vehicles to transport students after school hours. Follow all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations to ensure passenger safety at all times. Assist students with boarding and exiting vehicles, including providing wheelchair assistance when needed. Maintain discipline and manage student behavior to promote a safe and respectful environment onboard. Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle, checking for mechanical issues, safety equipment, and cleanliness before each route. Respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies, executing emergency stop procedures and emergency response protocols effectively. Communicate clearly with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using strong English language skills; multilingual abilities are a plus. Skills Proven experience in bus driving, school bus operation, or commercial driving with knowledge of transit bus operation or paratransit services. Strong understanding of traffic laws, transportation safety regulations, and emergency response procedures for transportation. Excellent communication skills to interact professionally with children, parents, school personnel, and colleagues. Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for loading/unloading equipment or assisting passengers with mobility devices. Knowledge of student discipline techniques and behavior management strategies to ensure passenger safety. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred with endorsements for passenger transport. Certifications such as First Aid and CPR are highly desirable; training provided if needed. Familiarity with school policies regarding student conduct and transportation procedures; ability to respond swiftly to traffic changes or unforeseen circumstances. $23.12 - $27.84 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 per week
