Duties Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Ensure the safety of all passengers by following emergency response procedures for transportation and implementing vehicle stop procedures when necessary. Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, including providing wheelchair assistance and managing behavior to promote student discipline. Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle condition, including checking brakes, lights, signals, and emergency equipment. Respond quickly to traffic changes or road conditions, adjusting routes as needed to maintain schedule integrity. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear English or multilingual communication skills. Maintain accurate logs of trips, incidents, and vehicle inspections while adhering to all transportation safety regulations. Skills Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or school bus operation with a strong understanding of traffic laws and vehicle codes. Knowledge of emergency response procedures for transportation incidents and CPR certification is highly desirable. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting students or handling equipment safely. Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with children, parents, school personnel, and colleagues. Strong behavior management skills to handle student discipline positively and professionally. Familiarity with school policy knowledge related to student safety and transportation protocols. Experience working with children or senior care is a plus; multilingual abilities are valued for diverse communities.
