About us The St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District is the parish's largest employer, providing approximately 900 jobs, and educates approximately 5,000 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade on 12 campuses.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITES
To provide safe transportation of students during school routes and extracurricular activities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Safely transports assigned students at each respective school assigned by the Transportation Office. 2. Reports for work regularly and punctually in the time established by the Transportation Department. 3. Notifies the Transportation Department of absence, tardiness, or mechanical failure immediately. 4. Establishes and maintains discipline, according to discipline procedures as established by the St. John School Board. 5. Documents all bus discipline infractions and incidents on proper triplicate form. 6. Has knowledge and review bus safety rules and discipline policy loading and unloading procedures with students. 7. Completes accurately and submits in a timely manner all reports as needed by the Transportation Department (Route Report, mileage, Pre/Post Inspection, and Accident Reports). 8. Maintains good public relations with students, parents, and school administrators. 9. Performs Pre/Post trip inspection daily and records on proper forms.
Checks:
a) Liquid levels, lights b) Tires, gauges c) Mirrors, etc. 10. Maintains a neat and clean vehicle: a) Sweeps twice daily b) Washes when needed (one monthly minimum) c) Cleans/wipes down interior. 11. Establishes safe bus stop locations. 12. Informs Transportation Office concerning the movement of bus stop location. 13. Maintains and carries an updated student roster for every school being services on proper form. 14. Carries cellular phone at all times while on school bus with power on. 15. Carries proper forms on bus registration, insurance information. 16. Notifies the Transportation Department of mechanical problems and brings vehicle to mechanic immediately or obtain instruction from office. 17. Contacts Transportation Department and/or Central Office immediately when given citation and/or involved in an accident. 18. Immediately submits to random drug/alcohol testing and post accident drug testing. 19. Submits an annual physical examination (CDL physical) before the start of every school session. 20. Attends all inservice training programs when scheduled. 21. Provides an update to the Transportation Department with information such as phone number, address, and an emergency phone number. 22. Drives additional routes as directed by the Transportation Office. 23. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of state and local traffic laws and local ordinances governing motor vehicles operations. 24. Maintains an acceptable driving record in personal vehicle and school bus, as required in the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1986, part 383, Sub-part B, C, D of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. 25. Ensures that all students aboard the bus are supervised at all times. 26. Demonstrates knowledge of materials and information in St. John Parish School Board's Transportation Handbook. 27. Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time within the area of specific job assignments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The bus driver must be able to: 1) withstand temperature changes inherent in driving under any weather condition; 2) work varying hours and days as required by the transportation demands of the Parish.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
A bus driver must be able to effectively communicate in English both orally and in writing; accurately give and record information; and communicate courteously with all.
EQUIPMENT
A bus driver must be able to: 1) maintain and operate the vehicle; 2) operate a cellular phone.
PHYSCIAL INVOLVEMENT
A bus driver must be able to: 1) stand, walk, hear, push, see, reach, sit, bend and perceive depth; 2) endure dust, fumes, smoke, gases, or excessive noise; 30 distinguish basic colors; 4) endure factors such as experienced on long bus trips; 5) endure protracted or irregular work hours; and 6) lift or carry up to 40 pounds, if required.
HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT
A bus driver must: 1) understand and interpret written and oral communications and instructions; 2) cooperate with school system personnel, parents, students, and other motor vehicle operators.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The bus driver must: 1) possess a high school diploma or GED; 2) be a minimum of 21 years of age; 3) hold a valid CDL; 4) pass a yearly physical examination required of bus drivers; 5) pass criminal history check; and 6) pass random alcohol and drug testing.
