Takoma Park Child Development Center is looking for an experienced and licensed bus driver who can drive our 66-passenger 2026 Thomas Saf-T-Liner. The driver would be transporting children and teachers to field trips in Maryland, Virginia, and DC from approximately 8 AM-6 PM on the following dates: Friday, October 16, 2026 Monday, November 2, 2026 Monday, January 25, 2027 Tuesday, March 9, 2027 Friday, March 26, 2027 Monday-Friday, March 29-April 2, 2027 Monday, April 12, 2027 Thursday, April 22, 2027 Monday, May 17, 2027 The Bus Driver must prioritize safety, punctuality, and reliability while maintaining positive, professional interactions with children, families, and staff. This role includes responsibility for routine maintenance and inspections of the vehicle, as well as maintaining all necessary licensure and training. Requirements Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsements. Clean driving record, verified regularly. Completion of regular bus safety training and renewal sessions as needed. Other Requirements Must pass a medical evaluation and state and federal background checks. Must be at least 21 years old. Essential Responsibilities 1. Transportation Safety & Daily Operations Conduct and document a pre-trip and post-trip inspection of the bus each day it is in use. Ensure children are properly seated and secured before departure. Maintain awareness of all children on board; ensure no child is left unattended. Drive children and staff to and from field trips safely and punctually. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the bus interior. Know and follow all traffic laws and regulations. Monitor weather and traffic conditions and adjust plans to ensure safety and timeliness. 2. Vehicle Maintenance & Record-Keeping Refuel the bus as needed and keep receipts for TPCDC records. Report any vehicle malfunctions or needed repairs immediately. Ensure emergency equipment (fire extinguisher, etc) is on board and in working condition. 3. Communication & Professionalism Communicate clearly and professionally with children, staff, and families. Demonstrate patience and a calm demeanor in all interactions. Remain vigilant and attentive while children are on board. Notify the Director of any incidents, safety concerns, or delays immediately. 4. Team Collaboration Support the mission and values of TPCDC in all aspects of your work. Cooperate with program staff to adjust routes or plans to accommodate field trip goals.
