Job Description
Job Summary Join our team as a School Bus Driver and become a vital part of ensuring safe, reliable transportation for students in our community. In this energetic role, you will operate school buses and paratransit vehicles, transporting students to and from school and extracurricular activities while maintaining the highest standards of safety and customer service. Duties Safely operate school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles according to traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Ensure the safety of all passengers by adhering to child behavior management policies, passenger safety protocols, and emergency response procedures. Assist passengers with disabilities by providing wheelchair assistance and ensuring proper securement of mobility devices. Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle condition, including checking brakes, lights, signals, and emergency equipment. Respond quickly to traffic changes, road hazards, or unexpected delays to maintain schedule integrity. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear language and professional demeanor. Follow all vehicle codes, school policies, and state and local commercial driving laws to ensure compliance at all times. Handle heavy lifting when necessary for loading or unloading equipment or assisting passengers. Manage student behavior with patience and professionalism while promoting a respectful environment onboard. Maintain accurate records of trips, incidents, inspections, and safety checks in writing or digital logs. Experience Proven experience in bus driving or commercial transportation is preferred; previous work with children or seniors is a plus. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement required. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle operation standards, emergency stop procedures, and transportation safety regulations. Certification in first aid and CPR is highly desirable; training will be provided if necessary. Experience working with children or individuals requiring special assistance demonstrates compassion and patience. Ability to communicate effectively in English; multilingual skills are an advantage for diverse communities. Familiarity with behavior management techniques and child discipline policies helps promote positive passenger interactions. Physical ability to perform heavy lifting tasks safely; comfortable sitting for extended periods during routes.
