Responsibilities Safely operate school buses and transit vehicles in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and school policies. Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and readiness. Assist students with boarding, disembarking, including wheelchair assistance and heavy lifting when necessary. Maintain a calm, disciplined environment onboard by managing student behavior and implementing behavior management techniques. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and emergency stop procedures. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and traffic authorities to coordinate schedules and address concerns. Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected road conditions to ensure timely arrivals and departures. Ensure passenger safety at all times by adhering to transportation safety regulations and child protection standards. Skills Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation with a strong understanding of commercial driving laws. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency response procedures for transportation, and school policy knowledge. Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse communities. Ability to perform heavy lifting and assist children with special needs or mobility challenges. Strong customer service skills combined with behavior management techniques to foster a safe environment. Familiarity with child care practices and student discipline strategies. Certified in First Aid and CPR; knowledge of emergency stop procedures is essential. Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes while maintaining focus on passenger safety. Experience working with children or senior care is advantageous but not required; a genuine passion for student well-being is essential.
