In this role, you will operate school buses and transit vehicles, transporting students to and from school and extracurricular activities while maintaining the highest standards of safety and customer service. Responsibilities Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles according to traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Ensure the safety of all passengers by adhering to emergency response procedures, vehicle codes, and child safety protocols. Assist students with boarding and exiting vehicles, including providing wheelchair assistance when needed. Maintain discipline and manage student behavior in accordance with school policies and behavior management strategies. Conduct pre-trip inspections, monitor traffic conditions, and respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies to ensure timely arrivals. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear language and professional customer service skills. Complete all required documentation such as incident reports, logs, and vehicle maintenance records accurately and promptly. Requirements Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for school bus or transit vehicle operation. Proven experience in bus driving, including school bus driving or transit bus operation. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency response procedures for transportation. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting students or handling equipment safely. Experience working with children or in childcare environments is highly desirable. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for diverse communities. Familiarity with student discipline policies and behavior management techniques. Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and adapt driving plans accordingly.
