This vital role involves operating school vans with professionalism, adhering to traffic laws, and prioritizing passenger safety at all times. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and a passion for working with children. This paid position offers an opportunity to make a positive impact on students' daily lives while maintaining high standards of transportation safety and customer service. Duties Safely operate school vans, including paratransit vehicles and wheelchair-accessible vans, following all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Pick up and drop off students at designated locations, ensuring timely arrivals and departures. Assist students with mobility needs, including wheelchair assistance, ensuring comfort and safety during transit. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and emergency stop procedures when necessary. Maintain clear communication with school staff, parents, and dispatchers regarding route changes or student needs. Conduct vehicle inspections before and after routes to ensure mechanical safety and cleanliness; report any issues promptly. Manage student behavior according to school policies, promoting a safe and respectful environment onboard the vehicle. Experience Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and state/local commercial driving laws applicable to school transportation. Experience working with children or in childcare settings is highly desirable. Familiarity with transportation safety regulations, emergency response procedures, and child discipline strategies. Mechanical knowledge of vehicle maintenance basics is a plus for routine inspections. Bilingual or multilingual abilities are advantageous for serving diverse communities. Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport; clean driving record required.
