1. Must have interest and empathy for children. 2. Possess comprehensive knowledge of driving safety and courtesy. 3. Knowledge of the Federal, State and Local school district rules and regulations, procedures, and laws as they relate to the operation of a school bus or passenger vehicle. 4. Must maintain a valid commercial drivers license with all appropriate endorsements and classifications, and all other required licenses, permits and certificates. 5. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. 6. Ability to maintain effective pupil behavior management control over groups of children. 7. Must meet annual state required physical examination as required by D.O.T. 8. Comply with substance abuse testing as prescribed by local school board policy. 9. Must maintain a satisfactory driving and criminal background that reflects a professional driver and which meets all local school district, state and federal requirements. 10. Ability to communicate with people verbal and in writing in a professional manner. 11. Ability to write accurately to complete assigned forms and must be able to do simple arithmetic for the same. 12. Ability to drive all school district vehicles, including full-size standard shift vehicles and to operate lift equipment and wheel chair securement devices on special needs equipped vehicles. 13. Ability to read and interpret schedules forms, as well as read and use a map. 14. Ability physically able to climb in and out of a school bus emergency door to evacuate the bus in case of an emergency. 15. Knowledge of how to care for challenged students with diverse special transportation needs.Primary Job Functions:
16. Must attend in-service training classes and safety meetings as required by the department, local school board and State and Federal Government. 17. Knowledge of seating specialist in positioning and securing adaptive and assistive devices and occupants. 18. Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules. 19. Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities. 20. Check bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed repairs. 21. Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures. Complete required reports. 22. Keep records on bus mileage, gas and oil consumption, and number of passenger transported. 23. Keep assigned bus clean (wash bus exterior as needed or assigned) and fueled. 24. Supervise students while they board and leave the bus. 25. Communicate with teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on bus. 26. Maintain discipline; report student discipline problems to appropriate administrator. 27. Instruct students on safe riding rules, regulations and evacuation procedures. 28. Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses. 29. Inspect bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure bus can be operated safely before driving (Pre-Trip inspection). 30. Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, and reflector. 31. Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately. 32. Report any hazardous conditions along the route. 33. Operate two-way radio equipment or phone to communicate with transportation office. 34. Work irregular hours as needed. 35. Attend and complete required training program to maintain safety certification. 36. Performs such other duties as may be assigned. 37. Must wear LISD issued uniform when reporting to duty and adhere to the dress code administrative regulation.Similar remote jobs
