Responsibilities Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or specialized vehicles such as wheelchair-accessible vans and paratransit vehicles in accordance with traffic laws and transportation safety regulations Ensure the well-being of children during transit by practicing behavior management and student discipline techniques Assist children with boarding and exiting vehicles, including providing wheelchair assistance when necessary Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents and perform emergency stop procedures when required Maintain clear communication with parents, school staff, and dispatchers using effective verbal skills in English (and multilingual skills as a bonus) Conduct vehicle safety checks before each trip, including inspecting vehicle codes, lights, brakes, and other essential systems Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected road conditions to ensure timely arrivals and departures Requirements Valid driver's license with appropriate endorsements for small school bus or transit van operation Proven experience in bus driving and school bus driving, with a focus on passenger safety Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations at the state and local levels Certification in first aid and CPR to handle emergency situations confidently Experience working with children or in educational environments is highly preferred Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting children or handling equipment safely Strong communication skills to interact effectively with children, parents, staff, and emergency responders Familiarity with student discipline policies and behavior management techniques Multilingual abilities are advantageous for serving diverse communities Demonstrated understanding of emergency response procedures for transportation incidents and quick response to traffic changes Join us in creating a safe, supportive environment where children can thrive during their daily commutes.
