Minimum Qualifications:

Must be free of the use of illegal controlled substances in any amount. Also must be free from the effects of alcohol that may impair job performance. Minimum age - 21 Experience in driving passenger vehicles for a minimum of two years with preferred experience driving large vehicles. Sufficient stature to safely maneuver the bus and agility to pass yearly test required by state. Good driving record, free of all major violations such as; driving while intoxicated, hit and run, negligent driving and a limited number of minor violations. Track record of modeling good character traits.

Licenses, Certificates, Special Requirements:

Hold a valid driver's license with CDL endorsements - minimum Class B with S endorsement.

• Possess a valid physician certification of medical fitness.

Hold a valid Washington State School Bus Driver, Type 1 license. Must successfully pass all Washington State Patrol/FBI background checks and any/all drug and alcohol test as required by federal, state and school district regulations. Copy of high school diploma or equivalent. Proof of Immunization as required. I-9 Employment Eligibility (citizen or legal alien status) HIV/HBV Training (District will provide but must be obtained within 60 days of employment) Harassment Prevention Training (District will provide but must be obtained within 60 days of employment)

General Job Summary:

To operate school buses under all types of weather conditions, including but not limited to fog, rain, hail, sleet, snow and ice. To transport eligible students over regular designated to and from routes, and on field trips, extra-curricular and special or extra activity trips as authorized by School District officials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.

• Be punctual and maintain a good attendance record.
• Operate a school bus in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington.
• Maintain order and discipline on bus.
• Inspect bus daily prior to operation.
• Clean and service the school bus to include the interior/exterior sweeping, washing and installation of fuel.
• Report in writing any mechanical defects immediately.
• Complete and comply with required pre-trip and other bus inspection requirements.
• Submit an accurate and complete bus log.
• Legibly and accurately complete all forms, records, time sheets, trip requests, route studies, trouble reports, accident reports, and other clerical type activities as may be required.
• Keep bus refueled; maintain all fluid levels, clean daily and after each activity trip.
• Comply with all state and School District rules, regulations, policies and requirements.
• Hold and maintain all required valid driving credentials and certificates.
• Follow assigned bus route.
• Report all route problems and student problems in accordance with transportation department policies and requirements.
• Attend and successfully complete all training courses as may be required by the Superintendent of Public Instruction and/or the School District.
• Check and communicate via district email account at least weekly to stay current on district notifications.
• Other related duties, as assigned.

Job Related Tasks:

• Operate and service all school bus equipment and accessories, including, but not limited to fire extinguishers, highway warning kit, snow chains, sanders, first aid kits, etc.
• Perform all required operational and safety inspections of school bus and related equipment.
• Sufficient strength and agility to assist ill or physically impaired children to enter and exit a school bus through the passenger service door.
• Hearing capability must be sufficient to detect and distinguish traffic sounds occurring outside the bus, such as horns, whistles, sirens, trains, bells, etc. from a distance which will allow adequate time for defense or evasive action to avoid a hazardous situation.

Vision:

20/40 in best eye with or without correction. Approximately 1430 degrees peripheral which as a single criteria shall not be excluding and depth perception adequate to reasonable determined distance and closing rate of other moving vehicles from a stationary or moving school bus.

Eye coordination to avoid diploma:

color vision must be adequate to distinguish colors of red, green and amber of a traffic light.

Working Conditions:

Work is typically performed while in a school bus with students near school or transportation facilities. Typical activities require driving for extended periods, sitting, reaching, bending, lifting, kneeling. The work environment may be noisy and unpredictable.
