Job Description

Loudoun County Public Library (LCPL) builds community by promoting the joy of reading and learning. Serving as the civic center of the community, LCPL provides free and equal access to a full variety of library resources and innovative technologies to enhance the quality of life and meet the informational, educational, and cultural interests of the entire community. Loudoun County Public Library is seeking to hire several part-time, intermittent, on-call Library Couriers to support materials delivery across the library system. This position is used to cover as an on call as needed basis. Scheduling is based on operational needs.
Position Summary:
Operate the library's 26-foot box truck on a regular route of over 100 miles round trip. Safely pick up and deliver books, media, mail, and equipment to eight library branches and Library Administration.
Key Responsibilities:
Demonstrate safe and efficient driving techniques at all times. Maintain a valid driver's license and remain eligible to operate County vehicles. Maintain working knowledge of designated routes, including city and town streets, roads, and highways. Sort book bins and distribute mail and library materials at each stop. Transport furnishings and equipment for on-site and off-site library programs as needed, with minimal impact on daily delivery schedules. Hiring salary is commensurate with experience. High school diploma or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Successful candidates will undergo background checks as required. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records will be reviewed annually for continued qualification). Complete any other required training.
