DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK

• Responsible work in the Department of Public Safety, providing strategic oversight, management, and development of special projects related to emergency medical services (EMS) as assigned.
• Work is performed within standard operating guidelines. The employee is expected to exercise independent judgment based upon training.
• Work is performed under the supervision of the Director or designee.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following describe the principal functions of this position and scope of responsibility but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work functions. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas;

• Develops, implements, and maintains projects and programs related to community paramedicine and mobile integrated health
• Maintains a network of community partners for needed resources
• Determines appropriate EMS call-reduction strategies and implements them
• May be reassigned as a Single Certified, Paramedic assigned to an ALS Transport Unit as needed
• Responds to emergency calls as needed/requested, driving and/or operating emergency vehicles as necessary as well as maintaining operational readiness of assigned vehicle(s), and uses medical equipment following protocol(s)
• Provides training as related to EMS
• Performs routine office work as required
• Communicates effectively and coherently
• Attends meetings and in-service training as required to remain knowledgeable of departmental operations, to promote improved job performance, and to stay current with changing techniques, state/local policies, procedures, codes, and laws as related to the position
• Participates in programs to alleviate opiate drug abuse in affected communities
• Assists with community events such as offering free blood pressure readings, educating the public on the 911 emergency system, medical emergency and firefighting procedures, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (These essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

• Skills in budgeting, data assessment, and report compilation
• Knowledge of emergency medical equipment, operation, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of advanced life support emergency medical treatment.
• Knowledge of Levy County's street systems and geography.
• Knowledge of Department Standard Operating Guidelines (SOGs), Protocols, and Rules & Regulations.
• Ability to receive, follow and orders from a supervisor.
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with the general public, co- workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Upon submission of application, proof of the following must be provided:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 18 years of age due to hazardous occupation
• Maintain a valid Florida Drivers License for required travel ( and free from convictions of reckless or careless driving or driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances for a period of not less than three (3) years preceding employment0
• Maintain a valid State of Florida Paramedic License
• Maintain a valid American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Provider certificate
• Maintain a valid American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certificate
• Maintain a valid Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certificate
• 16-hour Emergency Vehicle Operations Certificate (EVOC)
• FEMA Incident Command (ICS) 100, 200, 700, and 800 certificates
• Verifiable training in a vetted Community Paramedicine Program (collegiate or another national auxiliary CPM program) preferred
• International Board of Specialty Certificate (IBSC) Community Paramedic Certification preferred
• Clearance from the Levy County Medical Director is required and must be maintained
• CJIS clearance must be maintained throughout employment
• Employer conducts drug screen and motor vehicle record check (Depending on functional area of assignment, additional licensure, certification, or training will apply to meet and maintain compliance with all Federal, State, and local licensure requirements, as well as established regulatory standards governing the work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work is performed inside and outside, with occasional exposure to outside elements and potentially hazardous situations when performing assignments.

Workspace is shared with other employees. Work hours typically align with typical Monday through Friday office hours though an alternate assignment could be assigned. The noise level is mostly moderate. Telephone activity, conversations, and interruptions are to be expected.

• When on emergency scenes, the work environment will vary dependent on the circumstances of emergency.

When performing emergency medical service and/or rescue operations, tasks are performed with potential for intermittent exposure to occupational health hazards including, but not limited to, extreme temperatures, wetness, humidity, inclement weather, loud noise, toxic/chemical agents, electrical currents, pathogens, fumes, gases, odors, erratic or unpredictable human behavior, weapons, and explosives.

• Tasks may include working around moving parts, vehicles, equipment, carts, and materials handling, where extremely heightened awareness to surroundings and environment is essential in the preservation of life and property.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provision of the Boards policy on evaluation of personnel.
