Position Summary This position will be expected to aid in the center's Barton Springs salamander care efforts primarily dealing with care and maintenance of adult and juvenile salamanders held on station. You will be working with a team of biologists and expected to aid other programs and train others to aid with the salamander programs when needed. Work is performed in accordance with established procedures or special instructions, most often on personal initiative and observation. Must follow established safety rules and required practices for a safe work environment. Schedule September 28, 2026 - November 27, 2026 Key Duties and Responsibilities Removal, isolation and treatment of injured or diseased animals; Feeding, cleaning, and maintenance of systems holding captive animals; Measure food levels in ponds and systems and alter feeding levels accordingly; Ordering and maintaining live food sources; Collection of water quality from ponds and culture systems and adjusting flows or clean systems as needed; Collecting and maintaining data and supplying information for monthly and annual reporting; Constructing, cleaning, and maintaining systems for captive propagation and research; Using microscope cameras and software, and rearing of juveniles in a variety of systems; Field collection and restoration activities; Freshwater propagation and conservation; Creating and submitting purchase requests Marginal Duties Aiding other programs with need requiring additional staff; Facility care and maintenance - including mowing, weeding, blowing debris, cleaning ponds, weeding community garden; Help with tours of facility and outreach events Required Qualifications Vehicle required for personal transportation. This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority. Participants must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent or agree to obtain one or be enrolled in an institution of higher education. Preferred Qualifications Experience in animal care and photo editing is preferred but not required. Hours 40 per week Living Accommodations Housing is not provided for this position.

Compensation Living Allowance:

$700/week; Health Insurance All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes. Personal Vehicle Information Required Driving Driving a motor vehicle for the partner agency/organization is a requirement for this position.
