Trident Seafoods is the largest vertically integrated seafood harvesting and processing company in North America. Under direction of Master, assisting in directing and overseeing the activities of the vessel senior crew; including deck, engineering, production and safety. Under direction of Master, shares responsibility for navigation and primary vessel activity which can include fishing, processing or hauling freight.

Essential Functions:

Assists with pre-season and day to day operations of the vessel. When Master is off duty, responsible for operating the vessel in accordance with Trident policy and local, state and federal laws and regulations. Works with Corporate Manager and Master to lead, manage and direct capital projects (e.g. drydocking, installation and repair projects, major purchases) including the scheduling, budgeting and compliance with license, permit and other applicable codes and regulations. Assists in overseeing and establishing the performance and operation standards for all vessel deck and navigation systems. Resolves problems using solutions that involve appropriate techniques, technologies, or concepts. Assists in directing and overseeing required documentation for the primary vessel functions. Analyzes and leverages human resource needs to assist with short- and long-term projects. Confers with Master to determine feasibility and cost effectiveness of present or future projects. Assists with the design and implementation of training to ensure that all vessel deck and engineering staff are properly trained, qualified and in compliance with regulatory training and/or regulatory certification requirements. Provides direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the deck activities. Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.

Minimum Requirements:

Must hold a valid USCG Mate License of 500 GRT or greater.

Experience:

5 years fishing experience in the fishery being applied for. Working knowledge of the engine room operations Advanced firefighting. Advanced fishing knowledge in setting and retrieving fishing gear for the fishery being applied for. Splicing knowledge for lines and wire. Intermediate net repair skills. Ability to identify different species for the fishery being applied for. Ability to conduct safety drills for crew and guests.

Education:

Extensive seafood of related industry experience preferred; Four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Current First Aid and CPR cards. Appropriate licenses/permits of trade (e.g., CG license of appropriate tonnage. STCW endorsement, etc.) when required. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and peripheral vision.
