Job Title:

Oiler - R/V Sally Ride Scripps Institution of Oceanography is seeking an Oiler to join the crew aboard the R/V Sally Ride , with a start date of September 3rd , 2026 . The vessel is currently in Alameda, California . The Oiler will support the vessel's engineering department with the operation, maintenance, and upkeep of engine-room machinery and equipment. Responsibilities may include assisting engineers with routine maintenance and repairs, monitoring machinery, maintaining engine-room cleanliness, performing lubrication and preventive maintenance, and supporting safe vessel operations as directed by the engineering officers. Applicants should be comfortable working in a physically demanding marine environment and as part of a team aboard a research vessel.

Required credentials include:

Valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) Able Seafarer-Engine endorsement Current USCG Medical Certificate TWIC card Valid STCW credentials as required for the position To be considered, please submit your résumé and both pages of your MMC for review.
