Job Description
Part-Time / PRN Driver Assisted Living Facility Position Summary The Part-Time/PRN Driver is responsible for providing safe, dependable, and courteous transportation for assisted living residents to medical appointments, shopping trips, community outings, and other approved destinations. The Driver assists residents with entering and exiting the facility vehicle and helps ensure each resident is transported safely, respectfully, and comfortably. This is a part-time/PRN (as-needed) position. Hours may vary based on resident appointments, facility activities, and transportation needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safely transport residents to and from medical appointments, therapy appointments, shopping trips, community activities, and other approved destinations. Operate facility vehicles in a safe and responsible manner and comply with all applicable traffic laws. Assist residents with safely entering and exiting the vehicle. Provide appropriate assistance to residents using walkers, wheelchairs, canes, or other mobility devices. Properly secure wheelchairs, mobility equipment, and other items before the vehicle is placed in motion. Maintain awareness of residents' safety and comfort throughout transportation. Treat residents with dignity, patience, courtesy, and respect at all times. Maintain resident confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and facility privacy requirements. Follow scheduled transportation times and communicate delays or changes to appropriate facility staff. Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, vehicle inspection documentation, and other required records. Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections of facility vehicles. Immediately report vehicle damage, mechanical concerns, accidents, traffic citations, or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor. Ensure the vehicle is kept reasonably clean, orderly, and ready for resident transportation. Assist with loading and unloading resident belongings, mobility equipment, and other necessary items. Follow facility emergency procedures and respond appropriately to resident needs or emergencies that occur during transportation. Maintain professional communication with residents, families, medical providers, facility staff, and community members. Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Must possess a valid Missouri Class E Driver License and maintain the license as a condition of employment. Must have an acceptable driving record and remain insurable under the facility's automobile insurance policy. Must meet all facility and regulatory requirements for operating a facility vehicle. Must be able to successfully complete required background checks and employment screenings. High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous experience transporting older adults or individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required. Must be dependable, punctual, patient, and able to work independently. Must demonstrate good judgment and safe driving practices. Must be able to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and healthcare providers. Must be able to safely operate any facility vehicle assigned, including wheelchair-accessible vehicles when applicable. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to: Sit and drive for varying periods of time. Frequently enter and exit a vehicle. Stand, walk, bend, reach, push, and pull as necessary to assist residents. Assist with walkers, wheelchairs, and other mobility equipment. Safely perform the physical functions necessary to assist residents during transportation. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions while assisting residents to and from vehicles. Schedule This is a Part-Time/PRN position. The employee will work on an as-needed basis according to resident transportation needs. Hours may include weekdays and occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on facility needs. Regular attendance, punctuality, and flexibility are essential due to scheduled resident appointments and transportation commitments. Safety Expectations The Driver is expected to: Require all occupants to use available seat belts and required safety restraints. Never use a handheld mobile device while operating a facility vehicle. Never operate a facility vehicle while impaired by alcohol, illegal drugs, medications, fatigue, or any other condition that could affect safe driving. Follow all facility policies regarding resident transportation and vehicle safety. Immediately report accidents, injuries, vehicle damage, or unsafe conditions. Resident Rights and Professional Conduct The Driver must maintain residents' dignity, privacy, confidentiality, independence, and rights at all times. Residents must be treated in a respectful and professional manner regardless of physical ability, cognitive status, personal background, or level of assistance required.
