Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Transportation Driver is responsible to provide non-emergency transport of residents of the community. The trips are, but not limited to medical trips, shopping, pleasure trips & scheduled activities around the city. The driver assists all residents by accommodating wheelchairs, walkers, and offering safe transportation for medical appointments, community outings and other transportation needs both to and from the community, and to be responsible for the efficient transportation of all residents; subject to the policies and procedures of the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Transports residents safely and timely to planned community activities, personal appointments that may include medical appointments and shopping trips. Assist residents with boarding and de-boarding the vehicle, especially those with special needs or requiring assistance. Makes sure wheelchair and passenger are properly secured and safety belts for all passengers are fastened, before starting van. May picks up several patients for a common destination. Demonstrate safe driving techniques at all times. Respond proactively to prevent resident injuries during transporting. Treat residents in a respectful, professional and safe way. 5. Report traffic accidents immediately to manager and calls police or ambulance services as needed. Provides first-aids or CPR if required during patient transport. Immediately notifies emergency personnel and manager if skilled assistance is required. Completes report at end of days' run. Inspects Vans' exterior & interior to observe any defects of exterior & checks operating system-breaks, horns, windshield wipers, lights, door opening device, first-aid kits, emergency flashers, fire distinguisher, before starting trips. Keep vehicles interior and exterior clean and safe to reflect well on the community's reputation. Represent the community well during all outings. Work cooperatively with other managers and team members to plan and execute special events requiring transportation services. Maintain vehicle maintenance log and report any non-routine maintenance needs to manager. Checks routed schedule and visits every resident with appointment time to let them know about their appointment time & talks to dispatcher (or other driver) if there is any changes or appointment cancellation by resident. Other duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must hold a currently valid Arizona driver's license as required by the State and have excellent driving records as verified by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and fluency in English are required.
  • Must satisfactorily complete CPR, first-aid, and hold current certification.
  • Patience and tact necessary for contact with residents.
  • Must be reliable and capable of working independently and remaining calm in case of emergency.
Care for the Elderly/Behavior Health experience a plus. Must be able to lift, move and push an equivalence of 50 pounds on a regular basis. SKILLS Good communication skills. Team player. Highly organized. Knowledge / experience of health and safety regulations. Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents, families and to work cooperatively with other staff members. Must maintain regular attendance.
