Job Description
Heavy Wrecker Operator, Yreka CA. $30 to $50/hr plus recovery bonus. Fleet Nation is hiring an experienced heavy duty tow and recovery operator to run our Yreka yard on the I-5 corridor. Class 7 and 8 tractors and trailers, winch-outs, uprights, load shifts, and rollover recoveries across I-5, Highway 97, and the mountain routes through Siskiyou County. Pay and What You Take Home Base of $30 to $50 per hour depending on experience and certification, paid bi-weekly and on time. Guaranteed weekly hours, so your check does not swing with call volume. Recovery bonus on top of base for heavy recovery work you rig and run. Premium rate with a per-call minimum for anything you accept on your off days, and accepting is your choice. Customer acquisition incentive from day one, meaning the accounts you bring in pay you a percentage for as long as they stay with us. Paid time off. The Equipment and the Backup Well maintained heavy wrecker, current on service, not a tired unit held together with hope. You will have experienced recovery operators available by phone on every call, so if you want a second set of eyes on a rigging plan at 2am you have it. Nobody at Fleet Nation gets second guessed for slowing down to rig it right. We would rather pay for the extra hour than pay for the damage claim. What You'll Do Respond to breakdowns, accidents, and recoveries on I-5, Highway 97, and surrounding mountain routes. Tow class 7 and 8 equipment safely and damage free. Perform winch-outs, uprights, load shifts, and rollover recoveries. Rig it correctly the first time with chains, straps, snatch blocks, and air cushions where applicable. Work cleanly at scene alongside CHP, DOT, and first responders. Document every job with photos and notes, because recovery billing lives and dies on documentation. Handle light duty and motor club work when volume calls for it. Communicate ETA and scope directly to dispatch and the customer. What We Require Two or more years of heavy duty towing and recovery experience. Class A or B CDL with a clean driving record and a current DOT medical card. Sound rigging judgment, meaning you know what the equipment can take and what it can't. Comfortable working nights, weather, and mountain grades. Able to work independently and make the right call at scene without waiting for permission. Reliable, in the plain sense that if you say you are rolling, you roll. Worth More to Us WreckMaster or TRAA certification. Rotator or heavy recovery experience. Tanker or HazMat endorsements. Air brake and DOT inspection knowledge. Light mechanical ability for roadside repairs. Certifications move you up the pay range, not just the resume pile. The Schedule, Straight Five day on-call rotation with a defined shift block, guaranteed weekly hours, two days off where the phone is genuinely yours. If you take a call on an off day it pays premium with a per-call minimum. If you have run a wrecker before you already know the rhythm, and we are not going to pretend it is a desk job. If You Want More Than a Seat We promote on results, not tenure, and the criteria are written down so nobody moves the goalposts. Operators who build territory can move to Lead Operator once the route earns a second truck, then Area Manager with dispatch authority and a percentage of territory margin, then Regional Manager with full P&L. Reviewed quarterly. This is available to you, not required of you. A great operator who just wants to run heavy and go home has a permanent home here too. Apply with your resume on Indeed. Fleet Nation is an equal opportunity employer. Work location is on the road out of our Yreka yard.
