PM Position Purpose:
The Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and courteous transportation of clients, staff, and/or supplies in accordance with agency protocols and federal, state, and local regulations. This position supports behavioral health treatment operations by ensuring continuity of care and minimizing transportation-related barriers to treatment. The Driver plays a critical role in maintaining client safety and dignity, and in supporting regulatory compliance with the Joint Commission, Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
Qualifications/Position Requirements:

Education:
No specified education required, and an equivalent industry experience and demonstrated job knowledge will be considered in lieu of formal education. 2.
Experience:
Minimum 1 year experience in patient or client transportation preferred, especially within a behavioral health, healthcare, or residential treatment setting 3.
Certification/Licensure:
Valid Florida Driver's License with clean driving record for past 5 years. Must be insurable under agency's vehicle insurance policy. CPR/AED and First Aid certification (required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire). Crisis Prevention/Intervention training (e.g., CPI or equivalent) preferred. 4. Knowledge of basic safety and defensive driving practices. Familiarity with HIPAA and confidentiality protocols in a healthcare/behavioral health setting. Understanding of behavioral health populations, including mental illness, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and manage difficult interpersonal interactions. Physical ability to stand, walk, drive, and lift up to 50+ pounds, and remain alert throughout shift. 5.

Position Specific Competencies:
1. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; report any vehicle maintenance or safety concerns immediately 2. Operate GPS or follow assigned routes and schedules; notify supervisor of any delays or changes 3. Assist clients in and out of the vehicle as needed, including clients with mobility impairments 4. Position Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks:
1.
Core:
a. Transport clients to and from the facility, medical appointments, external placements, community activities, or other approved locations, using company-provided vehicles b. Maintain accurate and timely transportation logs, mileage reports, and incident documentation as required c. Monitor client behavior during transport and report safety, behavioral, or clinical concerns to the appropriate staff d. Ensure that seat belts are worn and safety procedures are followed at all times e. Communicate in a calm, respectful, and therapeutic manner with clients, including those experiencing mental health symptoms, distress, or behavioral dysregulation f. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the vehicle, including regular interior and exterior cleaning and disinfection per infection control protocols g. Understand and implement crisis response procedures, including contacting emergency services, facility staff, or on-call personnel during transport-related emergencies h. Adhere to all facility, DCF, AHCA, Joint Commission, and HIPAA regulations regarding client confidentiality, safety, and transportation services i. Attend mandatory trainings including CPR/First Aid, De-escalation/Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, Infection Control, and Transportation Safety j. Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to schedule and coordinate transportation effectively k. Ability to interact effectively and compassionately with individuals in crisis or under stress l. Ability to maintain composure and make sound decisions under pressure m. Ability to maintain boundaries and uphold facility policies and client rules n. Adheres to all DCF, AHCA, and Joint Commission standards for safety, security, infection prevention, and client rights o. Ensures compliance with AHCA rules for transport vehicles used in licensed facilities (e.g., clean interiors, emergency kits, first aid, no smoking (no vape, no e-cigarette), proper restraints) p. Maintains transportation documentation and logs in accordance with Florida Statute 394 (Mental Health), 397 (Substance Abuse Services), and agency retention schedules 2.
