This position is responsible for safely operating the bus or van assigned on a regular daily schedule in order to pick up and transfer clients with mental illness to and from Encore Day Program in a courteous and respectful manner.
Principal Responsibilities:
Transports clients to and from day program, following a preplanned route according to a definite time.
Proper transporting includes the following:
1. Performs pre-trip inspection on vehicles prior to driving.2. Drives bus carefully and in compliance with State and Company trafficregulations.3. Pick up and deliver clients as per a set schedule.4. Operates wheelchair lift, harness, and other special equipment necessary for the health and safety of clients.5. Assumes responsibility for the safety of clients in loading, unloading and transporting them to and from the day program.6. Monitors appropriate behavior of clients and reports disruptions to day program and nursing home personnel.7. Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with clients, day program and nursing home personnel and resolves conflict in a professional manner. Develop a cooperative working relationship with Day Program and Nursing Home personnel. Exhibit at all times appropriate role modeling through language, dress, hygiene and expressing appropriate attitudes toward sex, criminal behavior and the use of drugs. Maintain the interior of bus so as to guarantee a clean and sanitary environment for individuals being transported. Responsible for maintaining bus in good repair and replenishes fuel and oil as needed. Completes all required documentation on a timely basis (e.g. incident reports, inspections, passenger count, passenger misconduct, mileage, etc.). Hiring Specifications High School Diploma (or GED) required. Must possess a Clean valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL B) Must be able to pass a background check Must be able to pass a drug test. Three to six months of bus operation experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must be caring, patient and a reassuring person. Possess sound judgment and should be able to make quick decisions. Must be punctual and stringent about work, attendance and reporting.
