Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated Yard Spotter to join our logistics operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely maneuvering and positioning tractor-trailers within the yard, ensuring efficient loading, unloading, and movement of freight. The Yard Spotter plays a crucial part in maintaining smooth operations by accurately directing trucks using GPS navigation systems and adhering to all safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong driving skills, knowledge of logistics cargo handling, and experience with various trailer types including refrigerated, flatbed, and tanker units.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely maneuver tractor-trailers within the yard to designated locations for loading and unloading Use GPS navigation tools to accurately position trucks for delivery or pickup Assist with truck loading and unloading activities, ensuring proper handling of freight Coordinate with drivers and warehouse personnel to optimize yard flow and reduce wait times Maintain compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), DOT (Department of Transportation), and hazardous materials regulations Conduct routine safety inspections of vehicles and trailers to identify maintenance needs or safety issues Support logistics cargo handling procedures, including load securing and documentation verification Ensure proper handling of dangerous goods, hazardous materials, and other sensitive freight Facilitate efficient over-the-road (OTR) driving routes by preparing trucks for departure Communicate effectively with drivers regarding route changes or operational updates
Qualifications:
Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with experience in truck driving and tractor-trailer operation Proven experience in delivery driving, route driving, or truck loading/unloading roles Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and hazardous materials regulations Knowledge of GPS navigation systems and logistics cargo handling procedures Ability to operate manual transmission trucks safely and efficiently Understanding of FMCSA regulations, DOT requirements, and hazardous materials handling standards Strong manual handling skills for load securing and cargo management Excellent communication skills to coordinate with drivers and warehouse staff Prior experience with freight transportation involving refrigerated trailers or specialized equipment is preferred If you are a motivated professional committed to safety, efficiency, and precision in logistics operations, we encourage you to apply today.
