Job Summary:

Operates commercial dump trucks to safely transport asphalt, aggregates, and construction materials to job sites. Maintains valid CDL and DOT medical certification. Performs vehicle inspections, completes required documentation, and follows all DOT regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Operate Commercial Vehicle Safely Operate Class A or Class B dump truck in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations Drive safely in all road, traffic, and weather conditions Navigate to job sites, construction sites, quarries, and plant locations Monitor traffic, road conditions, and vehicle surroundings using mirrors and direct vision Back up vehicle safely and position for loading/unloading Follow all DOT hours of service regulations 2. Maintain DOT Compliance Maintain valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate class and endorsements Maintain current DOT medical certification meeting FMCSA standards Pass required DOT physical examinations including vision, hearing, and general health standards Comply with DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements Maintain clean driving record 3. Perform Vehicle Inspections and Maintenance Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections Visually inspect tires, brakes, lights, fluid levels, air systems, coupling, and cargo Identify and report mechanical problems immediately Complete and maintain required inspection logs Perform basic maintenance as needed (checking fluids, tire pressure, etc.) 4. Transport and Deliver Materials Load and transport asphalt, gravel, sand, dirt, and other construction materials Operate dump mechanism to safely unload materials at job sites Secure loads properly to prevent spillage or shifting Make multiple trips per day as assigned Coordinate with plant operators and job site supervisors on timing and placement 5. Complete Required Documentation Maintain accurate daily logs (electronic or paper) as required by DOT Complete delivery tickets and job sheets Record mileage, fuel usage, and hours worked Report incidents, accidents, or vehicle damage immediately 6. Communicate Effectively Maintain communication with dispatch and supervisors via radio or phone Report delays, traffic issues, mechanical problems, or safety concerns promptly Follow instructions from supervisors Coordinate with job site personnel 7. Follow Safety Procedures Comply with all company safety policies Wear required personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety vest, steel-toed boots, safety glasses) Report safety hazards or unsafe conditions Participate in required safety training

Qualifications:

Mandatory:

Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B Current DOT medical certificate (must meet FMCSA physical qualification standards including vision, hearing, and general health requirements) Ability to pass DOT physical examination Clean driving record (no DUI/DWI, minimal moving violations) Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screening

Preferred:

2+ years commercial truck driving experience Experience with dump trucks and construction materials Familiarity with local area roads and construction sites

Knowledge & Skills:

Knowledge of DOT regulations and hours of service requirements Knowledge of safe driving practices and vehicle inspection procedures Ability to read maps or use GPS navigation Ability to communicate clearly Basic math skills

Working Conditions:

Outdoor work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, and diesel fumes Work on construction sites with heavy equipment and traffic Occasional overtime, evenings, or weekends as needed Daily travel to multiple locations within service area

vision standards for commercial drivers Distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye with or without correction Field of vision of at least 70 degrees in the horizontal meridian in each eye Ability to recognize and distinguish colors of traffic signals and devices

Ability to sit for extended periods while driving Ability to climb in and out of truck cab multiple times daily Ability to bend, kneel, and reach during vehicle inspections Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally Ability to operate vehicle controls (steering, pedals, levers, switches) Adequate hearing to detect vehicle sounds, alarms, and communications Manual dexterity to operate controls and complete paperwork Performance Expectations Safe driving record with no preventable accidents Compliance with all DOT regulations On-time deliveries Accurate completion of required documentation Proper vehicle maintenance and cleanliness Professional conduct with customers and job site personnel Regular attendance and punctuality Federal Requirements Notice This position requires compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. To operate a commercial motor vehicle, federal law requires: Valid CDL appropriate to vehicle class Current medical examiner's certificate demonstrating the driver meets FMCSA physical qualification standards Compliance with FMCSA vision standards (20/40 acuity, 70-degree field of vision, color recognition) Compliance with FMCSA hearing, cardiovascular, and other health standards Compliance with DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements Individuals who cannot meet these federal standards are not legally qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle. These requirements are established by federal regulation and apply to all commercial drivers nationwide.
