The Organics Recycling Associate supports Reunity Resources' composting programs by safely and reliably collecting business and residential food scraps along established routes. This position will train in all organics collection programs including our used cooking oil collection and support the various programs as needed. The position will also train in our soil yard to support the composting process and/or production of products. The Organics Recycling Collection Associate operates company vehicles to complete scheduled collections, interacts with commercial and residential customers, and follows established operational, safety, and customer service standards. This position will train in all organics collection programs including the used cooking oil collection to support programs as needed. Essential Duties The duties below are the essential functions of this position and may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation. Route Operations & Collection Deliver clean 64 gallon carts and collect full commercial food scrap carts along assigned routes in a timely, safe, and organized manner. Deliver clean compost buckets and collect full residential food scrap buckets along assigned routes in a timely, safe, and organized manner. Screen containers for contamination (e.g., plastic or non-compostable materials) while loading carts onto a flat bed truck with liftgate. Identify and report route irregularities, access issues, or service challenges to support route optimization and service quality. Use assigned mobile devices to navigate routes and support service delivery as required. Tip 64 gallon carts and empty 4 gallon buckets according to established protocols at the designated composting facility. Operate and maintain equipment (pumps, hoses, containers) to collect, store and transfer used cooking oil from collection points to the composting site. Routinely swap 55 gallon drums to prevent build up of material other than cooking oil. Soil Yard Support Support soil yard operations as scheduled, including moving, blending, and bagging compost and soil products. Assist with customer service at the soil yard, including loading purchased materials and directing visitors. Assist with general soil yard site upkeep and equipment cleaning. Customer Interaction & Program Support Interact with business customers in a professional, courteous, and engaging manner. Respond to basic customer questions regarding service and communicate customer concerns, feedback, or service issues to the appropriate team members. Share relevant information about the organics collection programs to support customer understanding and participation. Equipment, Facilities & Vehicle Care Wash, sanitize, organize, and store 64 gallon carts and 4 gallon buckets in accordance with established procedures. Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of company vehicles, wash sheds, and related equipment and infrastructure. Monitor inventory of supplies and the condition of vehicles and equipment, and notify management of maintenance, repair, or supply needs. Safety, Compliance & Team Collaboration Follow all safety protocols, operational standards, and compost-handling procedures. Comply with organizational policies and applicable environmental and safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Troubleshoot equipment issues and report needed equipment repairs, safety concerns, or operational discrepancies to management. Communicate and collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, and visitors in support of daily operations. Additional Duties Support Reunity Resources' broader program goals related to food accessibility, sustainability, and community engagement by helping foster positive relationships with customers and community members. Assist with general site upkeep as needed, including trash removal, light grounds maintenance, and maintaining clean and orderly common areas. Provide organics recycling service for special events. Support programs by hauling materials in designated vehicles. Perform additional reasonable duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Executive Director to support operational and program needs. Education & Experience Previous experience in a route-based, delivery, warehouse, facilities, sanitation, or customer-facing operations role is preferred but not required. Experience working in a physically active role that involves lifting, repetitive tasks, and outdoor or variable conditions is a plus. Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets the organization's standards for insurability, as determined in the organization's sole discretion and in compliance with applicable law. Driving records may be reviewed at hire and periodically during employment, and continued insurability is a condition of employment in this position. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Basic understanding of composting principles and the purpose of food scrap diversion, or willingness to learn. Awareness of workplace safety practices related to vehicle operation, equipment use, and material handling or willingness to learn. Working knowledge of gas and electric pumps and liftgates preferred but not required. Ability to use smartphone-based applications for route navigation, customer check-ins, and basic recordkeeping. Strong customer service skills, including the ability to interact professionally and courteously with customers, visitors, and community members. Effective verbal communication skills to respond to questions and share basic information about Reunity Resources' compost program. Ability to maintain clear, accurate, and organized records related to route activity and service delivery. Ability to work collaboratively with team members, volunteers, and staff in a respectful and professional manner. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision for extended periods while managing assigned routes. Ability to manage time effectively, demonstrate reliability and punctuality, and attend to details. Ability to learn and retain new procedures, information, and route changes in a fast-paced operational environment. Comfort interacting with the public and directing visitors as needed within the work environment. Physical Requirements The physical requirements below may be met with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to safely lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to safely push, pull and tip a 64 gallon wheeled cart weighing up to 400 pounds when fullyloaded. Ability to perform repetitive motions involving the hands, wrists, and arms. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull for varying lengths of time throughout the workday. Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in a variety of weather conditions. Ability to safely operate hand tools, equipment, and materials associated with compost collection and bucket handling. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Ability to tolerate exposure to conditions commonly associated with compost collection, including food waste, odors, dust, noise, and outdoor environments.
