Core Responsibilities Waste Collection:

Manually pick up, carry, and throw heavy trash bags, bins, and bulk items from the curb into the back or side of the garbage truck.

Route Navigation:

Direct the driver through assigned neighborhoods, alert them to obstacles, and assist in backing up the truck safely.

Clean Up:

Sweep up or pick up any litter, broken bags, or garbage spills that occur during the loading process.

Equipment Maintenance:

Perform routine safety checks on collection vehicles and tools; report mechanical or route hazards to supervisors immediately.

Compliance:

Identify and reject contaminated recycling bins or hazardous materials in accordance with local disposal regulations.

Physical Requirements Heavy Lifting:

Ability to repeatedly lift and throw objects weighing anywhere from 50 lbs to 75 lbs.

Endurance:

Must be able to walk or run several miles per shift, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.

Weather Exposure:

Willing to perform strenuous labor in extreme heat, cold, rain, or snow.

Coordination:

Strong motor coordination and spatial awareness to work safely around moving traffic and heavy machinery.
