HOLIDAY:

Operates a variety of technical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and/or motorized equipment to maintain or operate water systems. Monitors, analyzes, evaluates, and maintains mechanical operation of equipment used to collect and/or treat wastewater. Interprets and applies technical information from manuals, drawings, specifications, layouts, blueprints, and schematics; draws maps and records measurements. Answers emergency calls from the public and other agencies; responds to sanitary sewer overflow emergency calls, sewer back-up customer calls and takes appropriate action which may include placing traffic control measures, sandbags, and providing necessary notifications; responds to customer complaints. As assigned, leads and manages sanitary sewer overflow emergency responses ensuring appropriate response time, containment, resolution, and proper and complete maintenance, cleanup, and disinfection, often in very large areas; handles and disposes of hazardous materials in a safe and rapid manner. Operates a variety of heavy construction equipment such as the backhoe, loader, tractor, and bulldozer. Drives vehicles to work sites and dumping areas; loads vehicles on trailers and hauls trailers to worksites; loads material and debris into dump trucks and pickup trucks; unloads materials and debris. Directs and assigns work to crews, including training and evaluating work; monitors work in progress at the worksite; directs corrections and modifications as appropriate. Estimates and secures tools, materials, and equipment required for assigned jobs; discusses work to be performed with supervisors; assigns task to individuals at the work site. Maintains written and computerized records of work performed and materials used; records as-built drawings of modifications; prepares a variety of written records and reports related to the work; performs computer data entry. Participates in the control of traffic; sets up traffic safety control devices, cones, and barricades as necessary; may direct traffic at the work site. Assists other divisions and/or departments, as directed. Observes and complies with City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols. Performs other duties as assigned.

Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 50 pounds or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment and/or assistance from other staff. Employees must wear and use the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances and fumes, dust, and air contaminants. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
