Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated Transmission Teardown Technician to join our dynamic automotive repair team. In this role, you will be responsible for disassembling, inspecting, and analyzing vehicle transmissions to diagnose issues and assess wear and tear. Your expertise will contribute to accurate repairs, rebuilds, and quality assurance processes. Key Duties and Responsibilities Receive transmission cores, verify model and serial numbers, and log them into inventory or work order systems. Drain fluid and dispose of used oil, filters, and other waste according to environmental and safety rules. Disassemble transmissions completely, including bell housings, pumps, valve bodies, clutch packs, planetary gear sets, bands, shafts, bearings, seals, and torque converters. Use hand tools, air tools, presses, pullers, and specialty fixtures correctly to remove components without causing damage. Keep parts organized and labeled by unit so reusable components stay with the correct core. Clean parts using parts washers, solvent tanks, or hot tanks, and remove debris, varnish, and sludge. Inspect components for wear, cracks, scoring, heat damage, and failure patterns, and measure critical parts with calipers, micrometers, and feeler gauges when required. Sort parts into reuse, rebuild, or scrap, and flag unusual failures for supervisors or rebuild technicians. Record teardown findings, such as failure causes and missing or damaged parts, on work orders or inspection sheets. Stage cleaned and inspected parts for the rebuild line and keep the flow of work moving. Maintain tools, fixtures, and the work area in a clean, safe, and organized condition. Follow all shop safety procedures, including PPE, lifting practices, and hoist and forklift use where authorized. Assist with core handling, shipping and receiving, and other shop duties as needed. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Mechanical aptitude and experience with hand and power tools. Previous automotive, diesel, or transmission shop experience is a plus but not required. Training will be provided. Basic knowledge of transmission components is preferred, including Allison, and GM/Ford/Chrysler automatics. Ability to use basic precision measuring tools. Attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures consistently. Able to work independently and meet production targets.
