Job Summary New Orleans & Gulf Coast Railway is seeking an individual interested in the mechanical field as a Railcar Mechanic, also known as a Carman. This position is responsible for inspecting railcars in a safe and reliable manner, supporting operations with field diagnosis, light and heavy repair, and routine maintenance, and traveling within the assigned geographic area. The role requires mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance, with welding and cutting ability needed. Responsibilities
- Inspect railcars in a safe and reliable manner in accordance with applicable FRA specifications and regulations.
- Provide operational support through field diagnosis, light repair, heavy repair, and routine maintenance of railcars.
- Use mechanical knowledge of machines and tools to support repair and maintenance activities.
- Perform welding and cutting tasks as needed.
- Travel and work within the assigned geographic area.
- Coordinate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers. Requirements
- Authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
- Ability to speak English clearly and concisely to communicate with coworkers and supervisors.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers.
- Ability to effectively handle conflict situations.
- Must be able to read and comprehend regulations and instructions.
- Must possess good verbal communication skills.
- Must be capable of performing physically strenuous work on a continuous basis.
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Previous railcar mechanical work experience preferred.
