Full-Time | Skilled Trades | Railroad Repair Bring Your Mechanical Skills to the Railroad Industry Road & Rail Services is hiring a dependable and mechanically skilled Railcar Repairman / Railcar Mechanic in the Cleveland, Ohio area . Starting pay is $22.00 per hour, with higher starting pay negotiable based on experience, welding ability, mechanical background, and relevant qualifications. Already have railroad or railcar repair experience? We want to hear from you. No railroad experience? You may still be a great fit. Candidates with backgrounds in welding, fabrication, industrial maintenance, diesel repair, heavy-equipment maintenance, trailer repair, manufacturing maintenance, and other mechanical trades are encouraged to apply. We are recruiting throughout the greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio area, including Cleveland, Avon Lake, Lorain, Strongsville, Beachwood, Cleveland Heights, Sandusky, and surrounding communities. What You'll Do As a Railcar Repairman, you'll inspect and repair railcars while working in an active industrial railroad environment.
Responsibilities include:
Inspect railcars for mechanical problems, structural damage, wear, and fatigue Identify repairs that can be completed within Road & Rail Services' authorized scope of work Complete approved mechanical and structural repairs Perform work according to customer requirements and applicable AAR specifications Use hand and power tools to remove, repair, replace, and install railcar components Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication work as required Operate tractors, all-terrain vehicles, and other mechanical equipment when trained and authorized Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas Follow company, customer, and railroad safety procedures Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, and other safety concerns What We're Looking For Previous railroad experience is preferred, but it is not required if you have strong transferable mechanical experience. Experience in any of the following areas may be a good fit: Railcar or railroad repair Welding Metal fabrication Industrial maintenance Manufacturing maintenance Diesel or heavy-equipment repair Truck or trailer repair Mechanical assembly Equipment maintenance and repair Candidates should be comfortable using tools such as grinders, pipe wrenches, pry bars, ratchets, wrenches, and other common hand and power tools. We're looking for people who are dependable, mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, and willing to learn the railcar repair trade. Physical & Work Requirements This is a hands-on position performed primarily in an outdoor industrial environment.
Employees must be able to:
Bend, squat, twist, reach, walk, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift Work independently and as part of a team Frequently open railcar end doors requiring pulling force up to 90 lbs. and pushing force up to 68 lbs. Occasionally climb ladders to heights exceeding 16 feet Work outdoors in changing weather conditions Work around railroad equipment, dust, noise, heat, cold, rain, and snow A valid state driver's license must be maintained when required to operate company vehicles or equipment.
