About the Role Step into a hands-on position where metalwork meets mechanical know‑how. As a Railcar Mechanic-Welder Technician, you'll blend basic stick welding with railcar repair tasks, building skills through on‑the‑job experience and supervised practice. A Day in the Life Begin with material handling to stage components for repair. Operate shop equipment and mechanical hand tools to support general railcar repairs. Perform basic cutting and welding, including limited welds under close supervision. Work through mechanical tasks such as uncoupling lever removal/replacement, coupler removal/dismantling, and brake lever work. Assist with car jacking and supervised railcar truck repairs. Remove and update AEI tags as needed for compliance. Progress toward certifying railcar welding positions (1G Flat and 2G Horizontal) while learning core stick welding techniques. Contribute to shop upkeep and routine maintenance across the car rail shop.
