Job Description
Primary Job Duties Monitor traffic flow to locate safe gaps for vehicles and pedestrians. Direct traffic movement or warn of hazards, using signs, flags, and hand signals. Communicating with other flaggers using hand-held radios to direct two-way traffic onto a single lane. Informing the construction crew of any traffic issues that may affect their safety. Appropriately positioning warning and detour signs around construction sites. Setting up barricades and traffic cones along construction sites to cordon off certain areas. Removing all signs, barricades, and traffic cones upon completion of construction work. Assisting the construction crew in the removal of rubble, debris, and hazardous materials. Guide movement of vehicular and/or pedestrian traffic through construction projects. Discusses traffic routing plans, and type and location of control points with superior. Distributes traffic control signs and markers along site in designated pattern. May also give hand marker to last driver in line up of one-way traffic for flagger at opposite end of site, signaling clearance for reverse flow of traffic. Practices construction site safety measures according to company safety policies.
Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma
- or the equivalent (for example, GED)Valid Flagger Certification (must be current)KnowledgePublic Safety and Security
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state operations for the protection of people and property.
- Knowledge of tools, such as traffic cones, traffic signs, and barricades.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction projects.
- Talking to others to convey information effectively. Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience. Monitoring
