Racing Valet

Job Description

America's second oldest horse racing track, the Fair Grounds has been a New Orleans staple since 1852. We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year-round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for preparing both jockey and horse for racing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Must do the saddling and unsaddling of the horses for each race. Responsible for cleanliness and neatness of assigned areas.

Responsible for maintaining various jockey equipment and assisting jockeys with tack.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be 21 years or older. Must be able to obtain a Racing License from Louisiana Racing Commission.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must have knowledge of thoroughbred racing, previous valet skills required. Must be able to stand/walk/ sit for extended periods. May be exposed to working in a noisy, smoke/secondary smoke environment.
