Shelter Coordinator Position Type:

Temporary, On-Call, Hourly, Overnight Position Description The Severe Weather Shelter attendant staffs the Severe Weather Shelter overnight, providing a safe, warm, and inviting atmosphere for unhoused individuals and families to sleep during severe weather. This is an overnight position with shifts scheduled between 4:30 pm and 9:30 am the next morning. Availability during these hours is expected.

• Greet and sign guests in.
• Conduct shelter overview with guests, including rules and expectations.
• Make coffee, manage snacks and keep kitchen area clean.
• Monitor front door and sleeping guests for any concerns throughout the night.
• Monitor parking lot and outdoor spaces routinely.
• Contact Shelter Coordinator/law enforcement/emergency services in the event of an emergency.
• Wake guests in the morning and encourage them as they prepare to leave.
• Tidy and sanitize space when guests have departed and launder bedding.
• Prepare updates for the next staff/volunteer team and Coordinator.
• Deescalate situations as they arise and support volunteers, clients, and coworkers in these situations.

• 2+ years of experience working with people with the lived experience of poverty and houselessness preferred.
• Solid customer service skills and ability to work in a busy environment.
• Must be self-directed, willing to take direction and be detailed oriented.
• Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work on call and overnight.
• Must complete all training provided by FCS within the first month of employment (De-escalation, mandatory reporting, bloodborne pathogens, etc.).
• A commitment to confidentiality- must respect and maintain confidentiality of program recipients, donors, and staff/volunteers. Computer Skills
• Basic digital literacy skills, including email and texting.
• Must have access to a computer or smart phone.

Physical Abilities Able to safely lift/push/ pull up to 25 lbs., grasp, handle, manipulate items. Able to sit or stand for long periods of time. Able to communicate with others effectively, verbally and in writing; including those who have limited English skills, large and small groups, and individuals. Maintain reliable attendance.
