Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and energetic After-school Van Driver/Assistant to ensure the safe and reliable transportation of children and students after school hours. This role involves driving a school or community van, assisting children during pickup and drop-off, and maintaining a positive, secure environment for all passengers. The ideal candidate will be committed to safety, possess excellent communication skills, and have a passion for working with children. This paid position offers an opportunity to contribute to a supportive community while ensuring transportation safety and efficiency. Responsibilities Safely operate the van in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Pick up and drop off students at designated locations, ensuring timely arrivals and departures. Assist children with boarding, exiting Maintain discipline and promote positive behavior among passengers in line with school policies. Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle, including checking fluid levels, brakes, lights, and safety equipment. Respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies by following emergency response procedures for transportation. Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and children to ensure smooth daily operations. Follow all driver training protocols such as defensive driving, emergency stop procedures, and vehicle operation standards for transit buses or paratransit vehicles. Keep accurate records of trips, incidents, maintenance issues, and passenger counts. Qualifications Valid driver's license Background check, Safe driving record Knowledge of traffic laws, student discipline policies, and transportation safety regulations. First aid certification and CPR training preferred; ability to respond effectively to emergencies involving children or passengers. Experience working with children or in senior care is highly desirable. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus. Demonstrated responsibility in adhering to vehicle codes, emergency response procedures, and traffic laws at the state and local levels. Excellent customer service skills with a friendly attitude towards students and parents.
