Variable Hours, 20-hours per week minimum Position Summary Drives District Type-10 vehicles (Vans) to safely transport individual or small groups of students between home and school or as assigned. Distinguished from a school bus driver by the requirement to drive Type-10 vehicles instead of school buses and therefore by all the differences in training, license requirements, operational skills and pupil management skills. Essential Functions Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned. Drive Type-10 vehicles as needed to transport individual or small groups of students whose schedule or destination needs are not compatible with routes or special time installations makes it more efficient for District to transport in small numbers. This transportation would occur on a predetermined time schedule and would include taxi like services and routing exceptions. Manage student behavior and activity, encouraging calm an orderly conduct by implementing behavior management programs and working with the transportation staff, teacher and administrator or other appropriate staff. Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours, as required. Completes appropriate logs, forms and paperwork, as required. Reports mechanical, safety, sanitary, fire, and other hazards/questionable items immediately to supervisor or District mechanic. Applies energy conservation and maintains cost effectiveness measures while operating district vehicles. Conducts pre-trip inspection of the vehicle and reports deficiencies immediately to supervisor or District mechanic. Accepts the responsibility of transporting school-age children safely under all types of conditions. Maintains the assigned vehicle by cleaning/sanitizing items such as: windshield (inside & out), mirrors, light lenses, floors, and seats. Reports any problems or safety hazards which exist or occur on routing, such as traffic, stops, physical barriers, students (both on and off the van). Maintains a current and correct route schedule - Stops and Times. Greets students in a pleasant and friendly manner at bus stops. Maintains a safe, orderly atmosphere on the bus at all times by seeking compliance with District policies through PBIS strategies. Administers first aid as required and takes immediate emergency action in serious illnesses or injuries. Completes daily maintenance checklist accurately as appropriate. Exercises good judgment and discretion in operating a vehicle in all weather and traffic conditions. Loads and operates all chair lifts provided for the transportation of the child. Performs evacuation drills, as required. Performs pre-trip inspections on van prior to driving in accordance with District procedures. Adheres to assigned daily schedule. Replenishes fuel and oil and ensures van is in good repair and proper working order. Drives District vehicles and vans safely while transporting students to and from all locations. Reports student disruptions. Assists students loading onto van, conducts required passenger instruction as required. Substitutes for other Type-10 drivers, as needed. Other related duties may be assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education/Experience High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). Certificates, Licenses, Registration & Other Requirements Possession of a valid State of Oregon Driver's license. A clean DMV driving record (no accidents or citations in the last 3-years) Ability to obtain and hold a valid First Aid/CPR card and pass SafeSchools online training modules as assigned. Desired Qualifications Previous experience transporting or working with school aged children. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (May be acquired through education, training, and/or experience.)

Knowledge of:

Applicable driving (Type-10) laws and regulations; student behavioral management techniques; District policies and procedures; safety and first aid practices and procedures; tie down procedures of special equipment such as wheelchairs.

Ability to:

Work Direction, Lead & Supervisory Responsibilities:

No assigned permanent staff to supervise. May train and provide work directions, as directed by supervisor, to appropriate staff and volunteers.

Physical Effort:

The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and climb stairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Specifically, the employee must have the ability to: 1. Climb and descend steps with a maximum step height of 10 inches. Visual acuity of at least 20/40 in each eye, with our without corrective lenses, binocular acuity of at least 20/40 in both eyes, with or without corrective lenses; from field of vision of at least 140 degrees; the ability to distinguish the colors of red, green and yellow. Hearing of at least 7/15 in at least one ear. No mental, nervous, organic or functional disease or disability likely to interfere with safe driving or other responsibilities associated with position.

Working Conditions:

Drivers have a considerable amount of contact with students and are required to maintain discipline on the Type-10 Van in order to ensure the safety of students. Exposure to inclement weather and the hazards associated with vehicular travel are routine for this position. The School Type-10 Van Driver must be able to deal with physically, emotionally, and mentally handicapped students of varying ages in a stress-free, mature, and positive manner. Noise level is usually moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee will be exposed to bodily fluids, blood-borne pathogens, sick and/or contagious students. The employee may be exposed to toxic chemicals (for disinfecting).
