Job Description

Category Nursing - RN-Stepdown Job Type Travel A skilled Stepdown Registered Nurse is needed for a contract role in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown). This position specializes in caring for cardiac telemetry, vascular, and med-surg patients, including those recovering from cardiac procedures. You'll be working in a 33-bed unit with patient ratios of 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night, adaptively staffed according to census and acuity.
Schedule/Hours:
12-hour night shifts (PM) Every other weekend (EOW) and every other holiday (EOH) required
Key Qualifications:
Active RN license in state of practice or compact state Minimum of 2 years recent Stepdown or PCU experience Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Certification Dysrhythmia exam required (study guide available) Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred Experience with EPIC EHR and critical care concepts preferred Must not be a local candidate Proficient in managing trachs, BiPAP, CPAP, chest tubes, PCA pumps, and administering telemetry drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amio, Heparin, Insulin)
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop individualized plans of care Safely administer medications and therapies per policy and scope Monitor and respond to complex patient conditions using clinical judgment Manage lines, drains, and advanced respiratory modalities (excluding ventilators) Support and educate patients and families throughout hospitalization Team up with doctors, PCAs, and ancillary staff for optimal patient outcomes Accurately document and verify telemetry strips in EPIC once per shift
