Description Position Title:
Office Assistant •
Treasurer's Records Basic Position Function and Purpose:
Prepares receipts and other financial records; Receives cash and department transmittals; Checks for accuracy and make deposits.

None Essential Functions of the
Position:
Assists the County Treasurer in a variety of bookkeeping and clerical activities
Including:
Calculates and collects delinquent taxes, issues tax receipts, redemptions and Issues various cash receipts specifying the fund which monies are to be applied; Prepares tax histories and tax certifications. Assists Treasurer In the settlement of taxes with the townships and cities within the County. Assists with the preparation of the Annual State Tax Sale. Prepares cash register for dally business, calculates and reconciles tax receipts and records for bank deposits. Balances out register with delinquent tax reports. Reconciles monthly payroll bank account. Maintains detail of accounts receivable on all delinquent taxes-flies all delinquent receipts. Send out tax receipts. Prepares and sends out delinquent tax notices. Prepares correspondence, Records and reports for various organizations and agencies. Types and files of various documents. Operates various office equipment. Assists the public and various County staff members in person and over the telephone with Information. Responds to various requests and Inquiries relating to tax matters. Deciphers legal descriptions of property and locates parcel descriptions on the tax map/rolls for tax certifications. Research property records with Register of Deeds to obtain property owner information Assist the Treasurer In preparing procedures to comply with tax sale legislation. Services the public with dog licenses, address changes and any other revisions they need to existing data. Participates in training and development opportunities. Represents Treasurer In the absence of the Treasurer and his/her Deputy Treasurer. Performs related activities and duties, as directed by supervisor.
Typical Physical Demands:
Office environment requires sitting for extended periods of time with some bending and stretching required. Use of telephones, and manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard, calculator, copy machines and other office equipment. Various documents and equipment can require carrying up to SO pounds, occasionally during the day.
Typical Working Conditions:
Normal office environment. Frequent contact with the public, staff of various departments within the County, with other governmental entities, State of Michigan and federal officials. Required knowledge.
Skills and Abilities:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience and training in performing responsible clerical and accounting work for two or more years, with solid background in business accounting and bookkeeping procedures. Experience In drawing and distinguishing legal property descriptions. Office experience includes computer training, word processing, spreadsheet and report writing. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and communication with staff, coworkers, elected officials, property professionals and especially with the public.
