SUMMARY Hourly rate to be determined based on discipline. This is a Part-Time Instructor Pool in our Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for available assignments during the academic year. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES SUMMARY
Provides instruction on the safe handling, storage, labeling, transportation, and disposal of chemicals while promoting regulatory compliance, hazard awareness, and safe workplace practices. This position is limited to no more than 19 hours per week and is as needed based on community needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and deliver instruction on chemical handling, storage, labeling, transportation, and disposal in accordance with applicable safety standards and regulations. Teach students to identify chemical hazards, read and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS), labels, and hazard communication information. Provide instruction on proper use, inspection, selection, and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE). Teach safe procedures for chemical storage, segregation, transfer, mixing, spill prevention, and emergency response. Incorporate hands-on demonstrations, simulations, laboratory activities, and workplace scenarios to reinforce safe chemical practices. Educate students on Hazard Communication (HazCom), Globally Harmonized System (GHS) requirements, and other applicable safety practices. Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Employee may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a related field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Good communication and interpersonal skills Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as intermediate computer skills. Must be familiar with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certifications/training:
OSHA Hazard Communication (HazCom), HAZWOPER, GHS, and other recognized chemical-safety or hazardous-materials training appropriate to the instructional area. Demonstrated experience working with chemicals, hazardous materials, laboratory or industrial safety, or chemical safety procedures. Working knowledge of Blackboard course management system.
