Job Description

Role Summary:
The Utility Compliance Technician is responsible for performing hydrant testing along with cleaning and painting the hydrants. In addition, the technician will be performing grit trap inspections. This role involves a mix of physical labor, technical inspection, and regulatory documentation to ensure local code compliance.
Key Responsibilities Fire Hydrant Maintenance & Testing:
Flow Testing:
Measure water pressure (PSI) and gallons per minute (GPM) to ensure hydrants meet fire department standards.
Preventative Maintenance:
Flush hydrants to clear sediment, lubricate nozzles/caps, and check for leaks or damaged stems.
Painting & Visibility:
Maintain the color-coding of hydrants (which indicates flow capacity) and ensure they are clear of brush or obstructions.
Grease Trap Inspection & Compliance:
Inspections:
Visit commercial kitchens and food service establishments to inspect grease interceptors (traps).
Record Auditing:
Verify that business owners are maintaining proper cleaning logs and manifestos from grease haulers.
Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Knowledge:
Ability to read maps and operate pressure gauges. Have basic understanding of how to use programs like Microsoft Excel, Word, Etc.
Physical Stamina:
Ability to lift heavy manhole covers (often 50+ lbs) and operate large hydrant wrenches.
Communication:
Strong interpersonal skills for explaining compliance violations to business owners. Must be willing to work nights and evenings once trained to cover absences and other needs for pest and mosquito control routes.
Pay:
From $17.50 per hour
