Job Description
Busy hospital seeking a Veterinary Assistant/Technician. Our practice is an innovative practice in both treatment and office management. We expect a candidate to embrace change and relish the abilities technology affords the hospital. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment. A good candidate for the Veterinary Technician position is a good communicator, detail oriented, and a finisher, willing to stay until the job is finished. Must enjoy client/patient interaction. Must pay attention to important nuances of individual patients and care protocols. Ideally, the candidate will have experience in the following, although we are willing to train the right person: Collecting blood (jugular and leg draws), stool, urine or tissue samples for testing Performing laboratory tests, such as urinalysis, heartworm tests, feline leukemia tests and blood counts Ability to place catheters Performing Radiographs with proper technique and positioning Sterilizing instruments and equipment Perform dental scaling and polishing Preparing animals for surgery Monitoring animals under anesthesia Asking probing questions about the reason for a client's visit Recording case history, weight, temperature and other details Safely restrain and stabilize animals during examination and treatment Trimming nails, expressing anal glands, removing sutures and performing other routine procedures Administering medications, vaccines, and treatments prescribed by a veterinarian Providing basic education on animal care, nutrition and medical conditions Teaching clients how to administer medicines at home Recommending products for optimal wellness, such as vitamins, supplements, dental cleaning, heartworm/flea control, geriatric care and dietary measures Feeding, walking and bathing animals when applicable Preparing and labeling medications to be sent home with the patient Experience in any of the following is a plus: Maintain animal records and billing information using Cornerstone Management Software Clean and organize examination rooms Order, organize, label and restock supplies and pet foods Answer phones Schedule appointments Greet customers Prepare invoices Discharge patients Follow up with clients
