General Position Summary:
Supervise program and coaches for all competition levels in assigned sport
YEAR-ROUND RESPONSIBILITIES
Formulate objectives for the coming sport season. Mentor, develop and evaluate assistant coaches throughout the season. Have an understanding and knowledge of rules and regulations as presented in the WIAA Handbook, League Handbook and Athletic/Activity Handbook. Assist Athletic Activity Director as needed. Conduct proper procedures for out-of-season practices and procedures, according to WIAA and Athletic Department regulations. Maintain membership in a professional organization such as the Coaches Association and/or Washington State Coaches Association. The coach must constantly uphold the honor and dignity of the profession. In all personal contact with the student athlete, officials, Athletic/Activity directors, school administrators, the WIAA, the media and the public, the coach shall strive to set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct.
PRE-SEASON RESPONSIBILITIES
Meet with the Athletic Director to review procedures as outlined in the Athletic/Activity Handbook. Submit volunteer coach information to the Athletic Director 30 days prior to the season. Meet with assistants (JV, freshman, C-Squad) to prepare for the upcoming season. Review and revise program philosophy, materials, training, practice, etc. The Head Coach will submit an eligibility roster to the Athletic Director. Verify inventory and arrange for a systemic issuance of school equipment/uniforms. Meet with athletes and parents at the scheduled pre-season meeting to issue and review Student Activities Handbook, policies, practices, philosophy and all paperwork.
IN-SEASON RESPONSIBILITIES
Implement procedures as outlined in the Athletic/Activity Handbook. Assume responsibility for constant care of equipment and facilities being used. Follow carefully the procedure for initiating purchase orders
  • ASB and District purchase orders working with the Athletic Director for all purchases.
Assume supervisory control over all phases of teams and Assistant Coaches in the program. Organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis with daily lesson plans that reflect instruction of teaching proper playing techniques. Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner as outlined in the Athletic/Activity Handbook and Student Handbook. See that the building regulations are understood and enforced. Emphasize safety precautions, be aware of current training and injury procedures and have a current First Aid/CPR card. Instruct players concerning rules and rule changes. Advise athletes at pre-season meetings as to possible injuries that can be incurred by participating in your sport. Develop a sport specific handout to be given to each athlete. Always conduct self and teams in a professional manner. Report a summary of all contests and provide any publicity information that will aid the program and Athletic/Activities it.
