Warehouse Worker Job Description This role focuses on receiving, storing, and issuing materials, equipment, and other items within a stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard. You will help maintain accurate inventory records, ensure items are stored safely and efficiently, and support the smooth flow of materials throughout the facility. Responsibilities Receive incoming stock items, verify quantities, and accurately record data manually or using a computer system. Count and document inventory regularly, ensuring all stock levels are accurately tracked and updated. Pack and unpack items for stocking on shelves in stockrooms, warehouses, or storage yards. Verify inventory computations by comparing recorded data with physical counts of stock and investigate discrepancies or correct errors as needed. Store items in an orderly, safe, and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other designated areas. Label stock items clearly using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools, or other labeling equipment. Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations and workplace standards. Monitor and keep records of stock usage and any damage to stock or stock handling equipment. Examine and inspect stock items for wear, defects, or damage and promptly report issues to supervisors. Provide assistance, guidance, and direction to other stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard workers as needed. Support packing, inventory, and receiving activities to ensure efficient warehouse operations. Follow all established policies, procedures, and security practices to protect people, data, property, and equipment. Essential Skills Strong verbal communication skills to interact effectively with team members and supervisors. Clear written communication skills to complete documentation and inventory records accurately. Analytical and problem-solving ability to identify and resolve inventory discrepancies and operational issues. Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and collaborate in a fast-paced warehouse environment. High attention to detail to ensure accurate counting, labeling, and storage of materials. Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, and procedures related to warehouse operations and security practices. Understanding of strategies that promote effective security operations to protect people, data, property, and facilities. 5-7 years of experience in warehouse, stockroom, or similar material handling roles, such as Material Handler. High school diploma or GED. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in roles such as Material Handler or similar positions in a warehouse or stockroom environment. Hands-on experience with packing, inventory control, and receiving processes. Familiarity with using computers or inventory systems to track and record stock data. Comfort with using labeling equipment such as identification tags, stamps, or electric marking tools. Ability to maintain clean, safe, and organized storage areas in compliance with safety regulations. Capability to support and guide other warehouse or stockroom workers when needed. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a warehouse, stockroom, or storage yard environment where you will handle materials, equipment, and inventory throughout your shift. You will work primarily on an overnight schedule from 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The role involves packing, inventory management, and receiving activities, including regular movement of stock, organizing shelves, and using labeling tools and basic computer systems. The facility emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and orderly storage, and you will be expected to maintain a neat and compliant work area while following established policies and procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Old Lyme, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.75 - $20.75/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
