Job Description
Position Summary:
The Wellness Assistant is responsible for assisting with fitness programs specifically designed for active, older adults. The position will assist in increasing the resident's overall wellbeing including increased mobility, range of motion, strength, and knowledge about fitness.Essential Functions:
Teach/Assist with fitness activities/programs (i.e.: group fitness classes, workshops, and other wellness programming). Assist with the assessment of residents' physical fitness, cardiovascular endurance, body composition, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility and develop personalized exercise programs for residents. Assist with the research and development of accurate programs of exercise, progressive resistance, flexibility, and body composition alterations for the residents of Wesley Commons that includes Independent Living, Assisted Living, and the Health and Rehabilitation Center. Conduct initial orientations to Wellness Complex for residents and staff members, including tour, weight room orientation/instruction, paperwork, and key assignment. Assist with quarterly assessments using the Wellness Matters Test to determine the population's health and lifestyle needs. Assess and search for programs/exercises that would benefit the residents' physical fitness and overall well-being. Responsible for assisting with community events. Assist with researching, organizing, and conducting educational classes/wellness workshops regarding pertinent health issues or wellness activities. Assist in developing incentive programs for residents and staff members. Serves as a member of the HEALTH Committee for the organization's wellness program. Update the informational packets for residents containing exercises for specific health problems such as lower back pain, sciatica, weak abdominal muscles, etc. Keep an accurate record of class attendance and record monthly averages. Participate in coordination and implementation of special events such as Senior Health & Fitness Day, Out March the CEO, Active Aging Week, Line Dance events, etc. Responsible for sending out birthday and anniversary cards monthly and get well cards as needed. Ensure that all exercise equipment in the Wellness Center is clean, up-to-date, functions properly and is properly used by the residents, staff, and guests. Responsible for submitting work orders and notifying Wellness Program Manager when equipment or other wellness items are not working properly. Participate in the Fitness Advisory Team meetings and serve as the secretary. In the absence of the Wellness Manager, lead meeting and provide detailed minutes. Collaborate with the Activities department to plan outdoor and recreational activities (i.e. pickleball, hikes, etc.). Adhere to all HIPAA guidelines.Non-Essential Functions:
Special assignments as requested. Perform weekly walk-through to check safety equipment, replenish towels, check pool temperature, clean weight room equipment and check for any needed work orders.Required Skills/Abilities:
Detail oriented and organized in work. Must be highly motivated, energetic and flexible. Understanding of wellness and proper fitness practices for older adults. Ability to demonstrate or explain the proper use of all equipment in the wellness center. Ability to teach various fitness classes. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a variety of personalities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent customer service skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Able and willing to work cooperatively with other team members. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science or equivalent is preferred but not required. Must have a valid South Carolina drivers' license and CPR certification. CPR certification, personal training certification or equivalent, and group fitness certification within the first year of employment.Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Prolonged periods of movement including stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching overhead, front and sides of body. Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities. #INDSimilar remote jobs
